Hi, I’m Jon Weir.

I’ve been a member of $no now for 1.578 years now, after joining in my first week at Uni. $no is a huge part of my university life and I’ve fudding loved every minute of it. I’ve made many friends and love the atmosphere the club has. All of the trips have been epic and I can’t wait for the many more that are in store!

I’m running for the position of $no treasurer because it is an integral part of the club and I believe that I can do it and do it well.

I have held the position of social sec on the Wolfson Committee, this has involved attending regular committee meetings, organising social events and all the sporting activities the department has been involved in. I organised the departmental social, which involved purchasing the alcohol and publicising it.

One of the key areas to being Treasurer is forecasting what we’ll need to spend our money on as a club. Over the summer I will consult with Westy to understand where the money comes in and goes out, so that the club remains financially safe for the foreseeable future.

Another huge area where there is money being lost is Stash. I will sit down with the new Stash rep and make sure we don’t buy too much and therefore have to sell it off at cheap prices, which is wasting your money. The money saved could be spent on more wine for the $noball!

I have been on all $no trips so have a good idea of what goes on at each event which will help when budgeting for the year. I am a member of the race team and through that I have gained an overview of the whole club. I have seen every side of what $no does and this will help when forecasting the costs of the whole year. I have enjoyed helping the club, especially when I led the human pyramid activity at initiations and I also stayed behind to help clear up the rubbish.

I have studied a module in Engineering Management, Finance and law. This has given me the basics in understanding balance sheets, cash flow forecasts, and other basic financial principles.

I shall be on placement next year, but shall be living in Loughborough and will not miss out on anything $no. I finish early on Fridays so each Friday afternoon I can meet with the AU finance officer and discuss the accounts and pay in money etc. I will not have any work to do in the evenings and at weekends, so I can spend plenty of time on $no matters. I shall also be able to attend most $no happenings as these are after lecture/work hours. And if there is something really important then I can use a day of holiday to attend. Like BUDS

It would be an honour to represent the biggest, best and messiest club in Loughborough.

Cheers

Jon

Tom Atkin for Treasurer                                                             Proposer: Niall MacKenzie

About Me:

For those that don’t know who I am, I am a first year studying Manufacturing Engineering. I took a gap year before University, where I skied for six months in Whistler and in spent the summer in the Alps. I have a passion for the outdoors and adrenaline fuelled sports.

I am an easygoing guy but I work hard and take my commitments seriously. I feel what I have to offer can fulfil the requirements of a good Treasurer.

Why should I be Treasurer:

Those that know me will tell you that I am one of the most organised and trustworthy people you’ll meet. I believe that these two main qualities will make me a successful treasurer.

I feel that being a first year is a major advantage as I will have time to devote to my duties; including being able to regularly visit the AU during working hours, attending committee meetings and ultimately ensure that $no remains a highly regarded club within the AU , guaranteeing Westy’s hard work is continued through appropriate financial budgeting and smooth transactions.

As a strong team player, I will always be accessible to committee and club members, and would be willing to go beyond the general duties and lend a hand in all aspects of the running of $no (Race, Freestyle, Recreation and Social.)

What I hope to achieve as Treasurer:

Having had a meeting with Westy and discussed the way in which money is managed within $no, I will propose to have regular meetings with him whilst he is still here, assessing how things have been budgeted previously and how that could be improved this coming year. Trying to get you more for your money.

As a freestyler, I know that we have the potential and I want to see the freestyle scene next year thrive as the race team has done this year. I want to work closely with the freestyle captain to ensure that training is correctly subsidised and they have the equipment that they need.

My close links to the Race Rep will ensure that the Race team gets the funding to continue with next season to the high standards and success of this season.

One of the biggest changes that I want to implement is to enter negotiations with the AU to obtain additional funding for subsidising lessons on Rec trips. Rec members are one of the biggest funders of $no and they deserve more for their money.

I’d also look to work with the two social secs to make sure the epic Snocials which have become legendary amongst Loughborough students are appropriately funded!

What I can bring to $no:

Having worked in Whistler Blackcomb I know how resorts work and I will be a useful asset on any winter trip.

I will support fresh ideas within the committee to ensure that $no continues to be the most successful club in the AU.

My hardworking nature, integrity and determination will undoubtedly benefit the club and I feel my input into $no will benefit the club and its future.

$no Love,  Tom x

Bring on $no Domination and Vote ATKIN for Treasurer!!!!

Hey all,

My name is David Mason and I would love to be your next treasurer. I’m a second year maths student from London and I feel that I have all the necessary qualities to carry on the awesome work that Westy has done in the past year as treasurer. My passion for this club is huge. I have attended both winter trips since being at Loughborough, been on loads of socials including both $noballs, been to BUDS 2009, KINGS Finals 2009 and I am attending BUSC Main Event this year. I have met some amazing friends through this club and if I become a committee member, I want to pass on my experiences to new members and old to give them as many happy memories as I have. Friends would tell you that I am a very trustworthy person and I am always true to my word. These qualities I hope will convince you that, in my hands, your money will be safe.

I feel I have necessary experience and the ability to hold this position. For the last two summers, I have worked with my dad in the finance department of Imperial College. This involves creating spreadsheets of expenditure and gave me a huge amount of experience of using Excel, a programme that I feel will be of great use if I become your new treasurer. In one summer, my brother and I managed to save the university £1.9m in claiming back on VAT.

As your treasurer, I promise to look after your money and make sure it is spent as wisely as possible. I will liaise with the Chair and the race captains to ensure that events such as BUDS and KINGS Races are budgeted for sensibly. I will keep track of all of Loughborough $no’s money whether it be in an account or cashbox. I will continue to keep the two $no accounts, the ledgers and the private, regularly recorded so I know exactly how much money is coming in and how much is going out. I will keep in contact with the AU Finance Officer to make sure that $no’s financial situation is the best it can be throughout the year.

One of the problems financially for Loughborough $no has been the loss of money on stash. In the past, too much stash has been bought from suppliers and not sold. If elected, I will work closely with the stash rep and make sure this does not happen again. The more money saved on stash, the more we have to spend on you, the members, and a better experience of $no you will have.

I want to make sure all members of $no know where their money goes. I intend to keep all members aware of where their membership money is being spent. I propose publishing accounts so members can see that no money is being wasted and being spent in the best way to benefit all. No purchasing in the club will be allowed unless it has gone through me and been recorded by me. I will work with all the relevant people and endeavour to get you the best prices for everything from booze to bouncy castles.

As a member of your committee if elected, I will do whatever I can to give all members the best experience they can have. Loughborough $no has a reputation as being the most popular and the best club in the university and I am prepared to do anything to maintain this. I will use my initiative to smooth out any cracks in whatever is going on and, again, give everyone the awesome experiences that I have.

So please, vote David Mason to be your $no treasurer 2010/11.
